  • We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) pending, organization that exists solely to raise funds for Malibu public schools.

    MEF is a separate organization from the district, with our own board of directors. Established in early 2024, MEF will support programs at schools through annual donations, permanently endowed funds, special events, and other earned income.

  • Annual donations to MEF currently fund:

    • Eight Instructional Aides (four per school)

    • Arts education for all elementary students in Malibu public schools, instructional aides

    • Math Tutors in Malibu Middle and High Schools

    • Malibu High School's Community Service Liaison

    • Strength and Conditioning Coach for Malibu High School

    • Music Accompanist for Malibu Middle and High School

    As Malibu Education Foundation continues to grow, support for important programs will expand as directed by the schools.

  • California consistently ranks low in funding for K-12 education among the 50 states. There is little or no funding for the important staff and programs that make the difference for our children, like art, instructional assistants, math tutors, community service liaisons and more.

  • Donating to MEF is vitally important to ensure we maintain high-quality programs for all students. MEF is the only fundraising organization allowed to raise money for staff and programs at all Malibu schools. These programs change our students' lives every day and make our public schools strong.

    Parent and SMMUSD staff donation participation is crucial. Not only do your donations fund incredible programs for our students, they also show that our community supports our schools. MEF will request donations from local businesses, corporations, and foundations - who regularly ask about parent and staff participation. Corporate and major gift donors are more likely to invest when they see a high percentage of our community donating.

  • YES, please donate to both the Ed Foundation and your PTA (elementary) and/or The Shark Fund (middle + high). We are all in this together. Both the PTA/Shark Fund are critical funding sources for local schools.

    Donations to MEF pay for staff and programs during the school day at all Malibu schools.

    This centralized funding approach ensures funding for vital resources and programming across the entire educational journey for every Malibu student. It will also ensure the ongoing funding support for these resources well into the future.

    Your PTA and Shark Fund donations help to support school site specific initiatives each year, and are equally important to support for your child.

  • Our first goal is 100% participation. For Malibu school parents, the recommended donation is $750 per child, but every donation, regardless of the amount, is greatly appreciated and will impact our students. This suggested donation is neither a minimum or maximum, please give what you can.

    Donations of of $5,000 or more are eligible for Founder's Circle Benefits and donations of $2,500-$4,999 for Leadership Circle Benefits.
